This fine tradition originated in medieval German towns and villages, and has subsequently crossed European borders and become something of a regular feature across France, Belgium, the UK and beyond. One of the major attractions for us as caterers is the focus on eating, drinking and generally being merry in the festive period.

This year, we’re delighted to have been asked to provide lunch at a market that’s virtually happening on our doorstep at Grittenham Barn in Tillington, West Sussex.

Some dates for your diary: November 18th and 19th, 2011

Normally, Grittenham is a wedding venue, but on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th November 2011, it’ll be throwing open its beautiful and capacious doors to host its own Christmas market (so no expensive, or bumpy, ferry crossing required!), and better yet is that it’s all in aid of the Sussex Snowdrop Trust, whose main aim to is to provide care at home for seriously ill children. What could be better than enjoying a tasty glass of mulled wine by a roaring open fire while you browse for presents, and knowing that it’s been put on for a very good cause indeed.

For the avid shoppers out there, there will be a huge array of original gifts including jewellery, knitwear, women’s and children’s clothing, men’s accessories, home decorations, and very much more.

There will also be the chance to meet talented local potter and ceramic artist Wendy Farley, and see her at work in the on-site studio.

It will be very much a “family friendly” affair, with the opportunity to visit Santa in his grotto on the Saturday.

We’ll very much look forward to seeing you there!

Thank you very much for a lovely stress free evening. I cannot believe that I went upstairs at 4pm and got ready in an unhurried way then sat and watched TV. Mind you, I was restless as I never have the luxury of time on my hands when I do dinner parties! All the guests enjoyed themselves and thought the canapés were delicious, served efficiently and with a smile. A couple asked for your address and I will give it to them.
